Important Information regarding 08-09 Season

We hope you had a productive 2007-08 recruiting season. It is time to plan for the next academic year, and we would like to invite you to recruit at Columbia again. Below is detailed information for the 2008-09 season.

Career Fairs!

Our annual Career Fairs will include:
Fall Career Fair, September 26, 2008
Engineering Career Fair, October 24, 2008
Not-for-Profit/Public Service Career Fair, March 6, 2009

(Registration for these events will open later this summer)

The Engineering and Not-for-Profit Fairs will be held in conjunction with multiple partner universities. The link above will direct you to further information about our fairs.

Fall and Spring On-Campus Recruitment

We will begin accepting requests for presentations and on-campus interview schedules NO EARLIER than May 27. We want to make the process easy for you, so we will be prioritizing requests on a DAILY as-received basis, not by time stamp. Unfortunately, any requests received prior to May 27 will not be accepted.

This year we will be using our website to capture your on-campus recruiting and Information Session requests. Beginning May 27, please visit http://www.cce.columbia.edu/Fall08Reservations to request your preferred 3 dates for the fall semester and http://www.cce.columbia.edu/Spring09Reservations to request your preferred 3 dates for the spring semester.

Employer Presentations

The University has announced that Faculty House (our catering facility) will be closing for a period of at least 18 months for renovations. Due to many of the helpful comments and feedback we have received, the facility will be undergoing massive infrastructure upgrades (i.e. central air conditioning, electrical wiring, and restroom additions). This means during the 2008-09 season, and even for a portion of the 2009-10 season, this facility will not be available for presentations or interview room overflow. We will have limited access to alternate venues. One of the policy impacts will be that employers will only be scheduled one full-time and one summer presentation. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.

Presentations can take place Monday through Friday September 2 to December 4 during the fall semester and January 20 through April 16 in the spring semester. (please note blackout dates on the recruiting calendar.) The times available for presentations Monday through Thursday is either 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm or 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. If you wish to come to campus during business hours we recommend Fridays at lunch, when there are the fewest classes. When submitting requests, we will only consider one firm wide presentation per semester.

To request your top 3 dates and times for employer presentations, please visit http://www.cce.columbia.edu/PresentationRequest.

Please note Presentation fees will vary by location.

Fall On-Campus Interviews

Fall interviews are for full-time hiring only. Interviews can take place Monday through Friday October 2 through December 4. If you are coordinating for multiple divisions within your organization, we ask that you please coordinate with all other representatives so that there is not a duplication of requests. If it is possible, we will schedule your divisions on the same date. We have 13 rooms for 9:00am to 5:00pm schedules. If applicable- when requesting your rooms please indicate which division will be using the room.

Spring On-Campus Interviews

Both summer internship and full-time recruitment interviews take place in the spring. Interviews can take place Monday through Friday, January 20 through April 23. Conditions for fall also apply for spring.

Recruiting Calendar

Below is a link to our 2008-09 recruiting calendar. All blackout dates are listed here.

http://www.cce.columbia.edu/RecruitingCalendar

We will do our best to accommodate your requests. It may be the case that we receive many requests for the same date and will attempt to match everyone as closely as possible. Please note that we have, in the past, received four or five times the demand than what we can accommodate for the first two weeks of recruitment. It is not advisable to request consecutive dates as we may not be able to accommodate you. It is also unlikely we will be able to host second round interviews on-site. We appreciate your patience as we try to meet the needs of all employers to the best of our ability. Please remember that students will have until November to reply back to any offers as stated by our policies.

Priority for requests will be given to employers who have:

  • Submitted payment for 2007-08 recruiting (invoices for outstanding fees were sent by email).
  • Completed our hiring survey by May 26.

The survey can be found at: https://surveysays.college.columbia.edu/websurveyor/wsb.dll/cce/200708recruitingsurvey.htm

Without submitting payment and completing the survey, it will not be possible for us to guarantee a recruiting date.

On-Campus Recruiting Fees

Fall and Spring Recruiting Season - $75 per interview room.

Fee includes:

  • On-line interviewing schedule(s)
  • On-line resume submission to your organization
  • Interview room(s) as reserved and confirmed

Unveiling the New On-Campus Recruiting System

With MonsterTRAK shutting down school's individual recruiting platforms on June 30, 2008, The Center for Career Education's Employer and Alumni Relations division has been hard at work vetting and customizing a new on-campus recruiting platform. The Center has chosen to work with CSO Research/Interfase for the ability to customize the system to best support the needs of students and employers. To support the transition process, we have invited the student body to help us brand and name this new system and we expect to unveil the new name and logo in a few weeks.

With this new system, students, employers and alumni will have access to all Columbia targeted job postings, on-campus interviews, employer presentations, career center events, career fairs, as well as thousands of jobs employers choose to syndicate through MonsterTRAK. You will also be able to maintain a person calendar, manage multiple resumes, cover letters, and other employment related documents and RSVP for events. The system has some great new features that we hope will ease your process for recruiting and job searches.

So what does this mean for you?

Employers: CCE will begin accepting Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 OCR reservation requests and Information Session dates and times beginning May 27th. We will be accepting them through our website (detailed information to be emailed) and will do our best to accommodate everyone the best we can. After your dates and times are approved, you will be asked to enter the new system to set up your events and information sessions. CCE will be providing support via on-line tutorials, as well as phone and email contacts.

Timeline:

May 27th - EAR begins accepting reservations

June 24th - Last day employers can post positions on ColumbiaTrak

June 25th thru July 14th - Job Posting black-out

(EAR will be providing information on how to get jobs posted once system is up and running)

July 11th - All reservations will be in the CSO system and confirmed with employers

July 14th - Employers are able to enter the system to attach jobs to their schedules, register for career fairs and post job postings.
