Degrees Awarded

BACHELORS

The School of General Studies (GS) is Columbia's undergraduate college for nontraditional and returning students who have had breaks in their educations. The average age of GS students is 29, and they usually have 8 to 10 more years of life experience than traditional college-age students. This wealth of experience, both personal and professional, is what makes GS one of the most dynamic and diverse of colleges - not only at Columbia but in American higher education. Students may be bank tellers or bank vice presidents from Wall Street; ballet dancers or choreographers from Lincoln Center; a househusband from Queens or his wife; an advertising exec; a police officer; a fashion model.
