Experiential Education/Entrepreneurship
One of the best ways for you to develop the information and knowledge you need to help you make better career decisions is through gaining experience and thinking about what you have learned from that experience. The Center for Career Education provides programs and services that will help you identify and secure opportunities in which you can learn more about yourself and your interests in different fields and careers through actively engaging in work and career-related activities.
Many students find that internships, part-time jobs, extracurricular activities, and community service activities are great ways of learning more about potential careers and developing the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to be successful.
The Experiential Education team at the CCE provides Columbia undergraduates with unique program offerings designed to facilitate career development. For the 2007-2008 academic year, these programs include:
- Columbia Arts Experience: Internships with New York-based arts organizations.
- Columbia Experience Overseas: International Internships in London and Hong Kong
- EDGE Scotland: Summer Program in Consulting, run in partnership with the Scottish Enterprises, a governmental economic development program.
- EDGE Guatemala: Summer program in Social Entrepreneurship, run in partnership with Social Entrepreneurship Corps.
Student Enterprises
Did you know that over 600 Columbia University students annually work in student run businesses in partnership with the Center for Education?
For over 50 years, the Columbia Student Enterprises program has offered undergraduate and graduate students from across the university opportunities to develop entrepreneurship, enterprise leadership, and business skills. Students earn a salary through starting, managing, or working for student-run enterprises. The Enterprises are a source of full-time and part-time paid employment for all Columbia undergraduate and graduate students and provide valuable products and services to the campus and broader community.
