Myer Briggs Type Indicator / Strong Interest Inventory

To supplement your independent self-exploration, the Center for Career Education offers two online tools which can help in your assessment process, the Strong Interest Inventory (SII)® and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)®.

The Strong Interest Inventory® helps you evaluate your interests and generates potential occupations to explore based on these responses. The SII is based on the concept that individuals are more satisfied when they work in positions that they find interesting and in settings with people whose interests are similar to their own. The SII takes about 25 minutes to complete and contains 317 items that measure your interests in different areas. The tool compares your answers with those of a sample set of individuals in the US who are satisfied with their current careers.

The MBTI® looks at your personality preferences and style, and has a wide spectrum of uses and applications. The MBTI may help you with selecting a career, improving professional and personal relationships, and enhancing your ability to lead and work with others in a team-based environment. The tool evaluates your innate preferences on four different dimensions, and describes how those tendencies work together to shape your communication, information-gathering, decision-making and organizational styles.

Arrange to take an Assessment

These tools are meant to be a starting point to help you in the self-exploration process. You can schedule an appointment with a Career Counselor to discuss the contribution an assessment inventory might make to your career exploration and planning. If you and your counselor decide you would benefit from the process, you will receive a copy of instructions for online administration. When you finish the online assessment, you will need another appointment to receive your results and have them interpreted by your counselor.
